Welcome to the Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia (FIANS). I am glad you have found your way to our website and hope you find what you are looking for in these pages.

As President of FIANS, I am happy to introduce you to our association and welcome any questions you might have related to our activities and training. Founded in 1994, FIANS is a not for profit organization that is 90+ members strong, involving people from all corners of Nova Scotia as well as a few external to the province. FIANS members include those public fire officials directly involved and interested in fire inspections, code enforcement, fire safety education and many other aspects of the fire safety industry. Most of our members work at the municipal or provincial levels although we also have individuals who are in private industry in the province of Nova Scotia and from elsewhere within Canada.

Our mission is to offer proven and innovative services to enhance the proficiency and accomplishments of members within their fire safety professions. This is done through our training for Level 1 and Level 2 certification. Our training is typically done in person at our conferences which are held in the spring and fall each year. To acquire the Level 1 training, it takes typically 4 conferences therefore 2 years, in addition to this you must complete the home study program. Level 2 training is much more in depth and spans over 4 years. I am happy to say that our next conference will be held at the Digby Pines Resort and Conference Centre the week of May 7, 2023. If you are interested in joining us, please reach out to info@fians.ns.ca for more information.

If you require further information about our programming or FIANS in general, please reach out to the local representatives listed herein and / or our administrative support email address listed above.

Thank you for visiting our website. We are always here for our members and others in the community to help better understand the fire inspection field. Stay safe.
