President's Message

ryanWelcome to the Fire Inspectors Association of Nova Scotia (FIANS). I am coming into my last year as President and firstly I would like to thank all members both past and present for their continued support of myself, the board of directors and the direction that FIANS has chosen for the future.

As you may have noticed we have been calling on members to assist in small albeit important projects to move FIANS in the direction the members wanted. I would like to thank those people for stepping up and volunteering their time as well as those who have shown interest. I’m sure you will be called on in the near future to keep this ship rolling! Our initiatives wouldn’t be in the stage they are now without that continued support.

To keep members up to date, I would like to report on the strategic plan. This initiative appears to be right on schedule with Bryan Roach taking the lead to ensure we stay focused. Bryan has played a huge role in the development and implementation of this plan from day 1. Without his guidance, and attention to detail I don’t think FIANS would be where it is today regarding this plan. Bryan has worked independently, with committee and the board of directors to ensure we are on track. FIANS has also started to meet with stakeholders to see what information is needed to continue to move this plan forward and meet our end goal. As a result of these meetings FIANS needs to gather more research and information to make this transition a smooth one for all. Possibly another opportunity for members to get involved?

For current and prospective members please check out website periodically to ensure you are up to date on FIANS activities, training opportunities and new policies. If members have ideas for continuing education or are interested in facilitating training programs please notify your local representative. I would also encourage all members to attend your local meeting as this will give you the opportunity to stay up to date with FIANS and to network with your peers.

In closing I would like to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to all members, as everyone has helped this association move forward. Whether it was attending a meeting, facilitating, getting sponsors or providing an opinion or insight on a certain topic of discussion, no contribution went unnoticed. I would also like to acknowledge the Office of the Fire Marshal for their support of FIANS both on the front line and the work they complete behind the scenes. Without this relationship that has been built since inception our work would be a much more daunting task for all.
